Ideas please to renovate an outdoor dining table
Ideas please to renovate an outdoor dining table
by Elpando » Wed Jul 17, 2019 2:26 am
We have a large rectangular poly rattan style dining table under our gazebo outside which has a glass top (approx 2.5m x 1.1m). Over the years the sun has made the rattan under the glass go brittle and it has fallen to pieces. I have painstakingly removed all of the rattan so we are now left with a see-through glass table. We don't want to lose the table as it is a 12 seater but it doesn't look great now. Can anyone recommend anything that I could place in-between the table frame and the glass top please?. I was thinking something like a thin hardboard maybe?. It will have to be something fairly rigid so it doesn't sag inside the top framework that is directly under the large one piece glass. Not sure where I should go to get something.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'd be tempted to make a light frame that would take 3 stretched canvases of 1metre x 40cm each - cheap & from Chinese shops - and mount them and then paint an abstract triptych on it - perhaps with 3 different aerosol paints.
Very light weight & definitely different!

Why not buy a large roll of strong coloured cord from a marine chandler or Chinese Bazaar and bind the frame over and over then put the glass back on.

We have had the same problem. The glass was still supported on the table but you could see all.the broken rattan underneath.
The answer we came up with was to buy the self adhesive (its not sticky) plastic sheeting which is on a roll in the Fereteria,s. Its in amazimg designs and colours. This was stuck under the glass.
You can buy it from the Fereteria just up from Lizaran on the left on the CV90 not far past the new Lidl.
its just inside the door on the left and they sell it by the metre.
Think we wet the glass and used a credit card to get the bubbles out.

I am in total agreement with the previous poster.
You can buy what looks like stained glass and will attach easily to your glass.
Another idea...
If you or a family member is artistic, you can buy glass paint and create a wonderful ,personalised tabletop. Perhaps Martin, the artist would advise you or even take on the task himself for a fee.
Wen finished, please take a picture and show us the final result....we would love to see it.
Good luck,
Rosemary.

Interesting option. What kind of paint would you say for glass. Brush or spray can and would it be better painting the underside? Thanks.

Sorry, i see 'glass paint' has been mentioned previously so its just the aplication of it with it being such a large area etc.
