There was a police check point just after the exit at departures last month, located at the ticketed exit barriers, the police had clip boards with a list of registrations, but it was only UK reg cars getting stopped, one unlucky guy had his car confiscated & towed

George as above when we have to pick friends up we tell them to collect there luggage etc & head up to Costa Coffee & once there phone or text us as we wait in the Orangina service area as if you park at the back it overlooks the fly in mostly used & you can often see the plane coming in to land once we get the call or message were on our way & it only takes a few minutes & were at Costa Coffee to collect them using the 15 minutes free but at this time of the year it can often be manic & they have the barriers lifted to ease access & exit but you often have to double park to load up & get on your way. We find it very easy that way & have done it for years without problems.

I'm confused as to why people want to wait for there friends / relatives / illegal taxi fares etc. in the departures car park when the price of the arrivals car park is so cheap. Is it because they are cheapskates or what?. All I know is that the departures car park is usually clogged up with cars and people sitting in them or waiting for people to come out of the airport. It would be great if the attendants would come out and present these people with a nice, say, 50 euro charge to get out of the car park. That might dissuade them and allow people who use the car park for it's correct purpose a chance to park in a bay.

I drop people off at the departures bit. Goodbye, thanks for coming and out the gate.
On picking them up I go to the main car park. Last time my grandkids were coming over the flight was delayed 20 minutes. I sat at the coffee shop (not the Costa Lotta one) and had a coffee.
Met them, got up to the car park and paid €1.90 which was cheaper than the coffee.

In my case it has nothing to do with cost, simply convenience. I get arrivees to text me once landed so they are through the airport in the 30 mins it takes me to drive from Quesada to the airport.

If I used the multistorey, I need to drive in, follow the dawdling hire car returnees down to the bottom floor, hump over the speed bumps, take a ticket (usually behind a few cars again dawdling and seemingly unable to operate the push button), drive around floors of car park negotiating the ramps and walls to find a space... to then call the arrivee to tell them what floor I am on, to then walk to the machine to pay off the ticket to return to the car and descend the multi storey in the same fashion as arriving.

Or I tell them to walk out on level 3, cross the road and wait for me. Usually within 5 mins I can drive straight into the car park, arrivee jumps in and straight out we go. 30 seconds max.

Call me soft but I love waiting in the arrivals lounge for my family and friends coming through, love seeing them arrive and giving them a proper hello. Definately worth a couple of Euro to park up in the short stay car park.

Understand entirely Angela. Like many posts on here there is no right/wrong answer IMHO, its dependent on the person. I can understand entirely how its nice to greet guests.

It probably depends on the demographic of guests, regularity etc. If I were greeting my parents, for example, I would park up in the multistorey and see them through arrivals and escort them. However, the other week I was at the airport 5 times in a week (they probably suspected me of being one of the non-registered taxis!!). My better half was back and forward to the UK for work, then a friend was visiting for a weekend, then collecting partner back in etc etc. I find the ease of using the in/out car park useful for swift collections and drop offs without spending 15 mins mucking around in a multi-storey!

Again all good options depending on the individuals choice.
In my case will probably end up in multi and meet and greet.

Thanks
