Underground Water Leak

Another thing to remember is the water company may give you a discount. My parents didn't but others seem to get some off, plus check with your insurance company.

After spending out 2.400 euros on water bills i had a new pipe directly from the meter to the house,on older properties the plastic pipes crack,had it repaired twice but did not last,and when going home turn the water off.

But chances are they won´t pay out over "general wear and tear"...

Sometimes they will reimburse you with an amount towards the bill

Our water usage had risen greatly due to a leak at the pipe to pool filler inside the pool wall. The water board guy left us a note in the letter box of high usage when he read the meter.
Our repairer contacted the water people who came and took photo of leaking pipe. Our water bill was halved.
Our insurance at Generali only covers water damage, not water loss, read small print job.
I also have mosaic driveways / pathways, expensive to dig up for a water pipe then re-instate. Do like many on here, and I, re-route where you can see the pipe and easily repair.
Try to remember to read your water meter every few days and record. Can save nasty surprises.
