Fridge problem

Fridge problem

Postby MichaelM » Thu Aug 29, 2019 9:40 pm

We have a problem with a fridge. Contents are not cold and external back of fridge quite warm. The fridge was full so contents redistributed to see whether maybe fan not doing it's job. Guests told to keep it closed for at least a couple of hours and they have just checked again but not much difference. Any ideas anybody ? It's a Hi-sense frost free model.

we have one, probably same model from Carrefour. Yes the back get pretty hot, so make sure theres a decent gap for air flow. Similarly inside, dont pack it to the rafters, it needs to be able to blow cold air out the vents all round. Ours is set to between 4 or 5.

Is it blowing icy cold air out the vents?

The fridge and freezer both work by blowing cold air in, so it all points back to either the fan isnt blowing the air properly or the air isnt cold enough, which then points at the cooling system. (compressor pump or loss of coolant pressure)

Maybe the condenser coils cooling fins at the rear of your unit are blocked with dust and fluff etc. This can impair the cooling. How long is it since your fridge was pulled out away from the wall and cleaned? Spanish houses are notoriously dusty. A soft bristled brush / vacuum cleaner.

If the freezer is working then it's not going to be the compressor, it's also extremely unlikely to be fluff dust etc. on the coils.

On the face of it it sounds like a fan may have failed and your guests are not going to be able to do anything about that, nor should they be expected to, so my advice is to get a professional in to look at it first thing in the morning.

If your guests lose a fridge full of food because of this compensating them, which you would be morally obliged to do, could well cost more than having it sorted.

Forget if it's under guarantee or not too, time does not afford you the luxury of exercising that and your guest certainly won't appreciate having to wait indoors all day for someone to turn up.

Your first and foremost responsibility is to them and they won't forgive you if you ruin their holiday.

Unfortunately if you want to let your property out then these are the sort of things you just have so suck up!

the door may not be sealing properly- run a hairdryer around the seal and manipulate the seal with you fingers while heating it
