Cars parked long term outside during floods

Cars parked long term outside during floods

Postby Mac3blade » Sun Sep 15, 2019 2:54 pm

Would anyone know what happens regarding all the cars that are parked outside in fields close to the airport? Are they still there or were they moved to safety? If the airport and area were flooded, surly all those cars would have been slightly submerged too. In such a situation, if unmoved, do they simply sit there and wait for the water to drain away? Surly they would be rusted and damaged. Who is responsible if these cars are ruined? I am aware that many homes have been destroyed but am concerned for people who don’t live in Spain and have paid to have their car cared for while out of the country.
Thanks.

I had the same thought.

I don't know the answer except to think that they may have been moved either in anticipation of or in response to flooding is probably fanciful, can you imagine the logistics of moving what might amount to hundreds of cars - and to where ?

I contacted Eco Parking and they recon they weren't affected to any great extent. No damaged vehicles in their compound.

Top gear parking have emailed me to advise, they had dug trenches to take the water and all of the vehicles are undamaged but their offices are flooded.

if cars are parked in a field there is no way a parking firm is going to be able to get the staff to shift any of them to a safer place , in the lap of the gods

I wonder what insurance companies attitudes to claims for damage to vehicles left in open compounds for weeks or months on end will be especially if not reported in a timely manner.

UK regged vehicles whose presence in Spain is, shall we say 'irregular', will be in particular jeopardy.

I know there is a scheme in Spain which covers damage resulting from extreme weather events and natural disasters (the name escapes me) but it's my understanding that such claims have to be notified within 7 days which for many absent owners clearly won't be posible and of course will only apply to cars covered by Spanish insurance anyway.
