House Insurance and these floods

House Insurance and these floods

Postby Paulwilko10 » Sun Sep 15, 2019 7:12 pm

Just read on another post that normal house insurance won't cover damage from the terrible recent weather.

Luckily our house seems unscathed but am interested why insurance would not cover this?

I am with sabadell and I think I would be covered unless I'm missing something?

I suppose its because its been declared a National disaster, something like that, similar to when its an earthquake and it's above a certain richter scale. Can you imagine the insurance companies paying out for everything that's happened how much it would push the insurances up, mind you, wait and see how much our taxes go up?

A small percentage of your house insurance goes into a government fund (can't remember the name) especially for this type of disaster. This fund usually pays out without fuss when required.

It’s called the Consorcio and is a fund set up to protect insurance companies and their insured in “Act of God” situations.

FLOOD DAMAGE and INSURANCE

CARS and insurance for flood damage

Just in case you do not already know, if you have fully comprehensive cover on your car you are paying a small amount each month to the Consortio. The Insurance will not pay for your car repairs for the Gota Fria but the Corsortio will. You need to make a claim with the Consortio. We only found this out when we were caught out in the last Gota Fria earlier this year when our car was water logged. The Consortio paid out - we had no problem.

HOUSE and insurance for flood damage.

Exactly the same applies as above. If you have House and Contents insurance you are also paying a small amount each year to the Consortio, so you make the claim to them,  your Insurance Company should help you with the relevant claim -

Good luck, Remember, if you are insured you are covered, do not accept that you are not, you are paying the Consortio every month so you are entitled to claim.

It of course only applies if you are insured with a Spanish insurer.
