Transferring Money to Spain. Fees?
Transferring Money to Spain. Fees?
by Cliveyb » Sat Oct 19, 2019 10:47 am
Hi everyone.
I'm buying a small bungalow in Pueblo Bravo with the completion date coming up soon.
Can anyone tell me what transfer fees I should be expecting to transfer 100,000 euros please?
I sent my deposit of 10,000 earlier via transferwise and it cost me £35.00.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Best regards,
Clivey B

Aside from the exchange fees ( and I agree Transfer wise is good) , just doublecheck with the Spanish bank as to fees levied for receiving money. I think the bank might slap fees on anything larger than 20k euros going to your account. If so, better to change in batches to avoid that.

Also, so you don't get a nasty surprise, if you will be asking your bank to raise a draft for the purchase day handover, check what they intend to charge you for that, it can be a bit of a rip off amount. They will often lower the fee significantly if you take their house insurance... But just check...

Why not get a bank transfer from your UK account in euros

Agree with Shiva we were told to avoid bank fees then transfer £19,999 at a time, also we got a free bankers draft for house purchase because we had their home insurance

My bank in UK (Natwest) charges a fee of £10 for up to £10,000 sent to Spain. I paid for my car in 2 payments so paid £20 and paid for our kitchen in one go so £10. Each payment directly to the company.
Might not be such a good exchange rate but usually not much less than the official rate and certainly higher than the tourist rate.

And avoid Banco Santander for EXACTLY this reason. Jokers.

I think if I had 100k lying around, I wouldn’t be worrying too much about bank charges.
