jpeg if the property has been fitted with a smart meter, surely regardless of the MCB it will only allow you to use the contracted amount of KW?

Just an update. I contacted Sparks in Spain and no, it isn't feasible to uprate the MCB without increasing the contracted power. If you do the cable will melt before the MCB trips and risks causing a fire.

It looks like the best option is to go for a new water heater with a boost function as djw suggested.

One way is to couple a second tank in-line so if you have visitors you simply switch on the second tank. This way you have loads of hot water when you need it and don't waste electricity when it is turned off.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I would have room for a second tank as I only have a small kitchen. I don't think I would really want a second one either although admittedly it would probably work. I'll think I'll just have to upgrade the one I've got thanks.
