Damp Proof Paint

Damp Proof Paint

Postby GnG » Thu Oct 24, 2019 8:26 am

Looking for damp proof paint (white) to coat the walls of my underbuild to prevent the ingress of dampness and prevent bubbling of normal masonry paint.

Does anyone have any recommendations ?

Can you purchase this type of product at Quesada Colours ?

Many thanks

Buy of container of UPVC glue. It is white in colour.
Pour it into a good sized container and using the original bottle, fill it 5 times with water and mix well. ( 5 of water and 1 of upva glue)
Using a brush or perhaps a sponge, cost all the walls and allow to dry.

This method was used for years by decorators. Nowadays, you could buy it ready prepared .

If your walls are really bad, brush off all original wall covering before using and possibly do this a couple of times.

Recently, my bathroom wall plaster had become boast and had to be chipped back. Before redoing it, I noticed the young apprentice putting this onto the wall before the bonding went on.

Please let us know how this works for you as it will help others.

For a quick & easy solution waterproof PVA glue may help. Although I don't know if they sell this at Quesada colours. The PVA could react with the paint and you may need a coat of sealer, try a patch test first.

Normal PVA is not waterproof though.

For a more durable solution you could render the wall using a waterproof additive such as Sika Waterproofer. https://www.screwfix.com/p/sika-waterproofer-5ltr/34457

None of these are perfect solutions and the best way is to eliminate the source of the damp.

Hi. You could try SERVICIOS HIDROLOGICOS DEL LEVANTE, S.H.L. on the cv 95 @San Miguel. We got some rubberised paint for an outside shower there. They are very helpful & give good advice. Ruth.

I go to Brochacolor on Calle Acacio Rebagligato Pamies, in Torrevieja Industrial Park, for all of my specialist paint. They speak excellent English (to my shame) and are really helpful. I have just bought some 'Impermeable', 'elastic' paint for my damp problem (took photos and showed them), together with flexible reinforced crack filler and PVA (Unibond). Paint to be diluted 10% & PVA 4% suggested.
