First Xmas for us too! We were thinking of a bbq on the beach just for the duration of the midday sun, maybe 3 hours, apparently this is a popular event done by many, although I’ve also heard it’s an illegal activity too. We will play it by ear

BBQs on the beach are normally a no-no. However, for certain days they are allowed or, at least, a blind eye turned.
Christmas Day will have many, many BBQs on the beach in Torrevieja with Zenia Beach being extremely popular.
They are also allowed on the Fiesta de San Juan (the feast of John the Baptist) and other days.
Enjoy but if you go to the beaches at Torrevieja (and they really are a great day out) go early or you'll be walking miles after parking.

For meals at a restaurant, it depends on what you are prepared to eat. Most places doing traditional Chrimbo meals are fully booked but there are several Chinese/Thai restaurants offering Christmas menus with entertainment.

I was at the dentist on Tuesday and read the freebie papers whilst er indoors was having something done and there were quite a few offering Christmas Day meals. Can't actually remember the names of the restaurants but pick up the Costa Blanca People or any of the freebie papers to have a look.
I do though, remember the Punjabi Palace in Los Montesinos and the Ranvir Classic in Punta Prima were advertising a Christmas menu if you want Indian.

(Consum has 3 freebie papers).
