Driving in France

I stand by my original post and agree with maisiesdad.Believe it or not I can drive from Spain to UK via Calais without refuelling and buy in France depending on the price.Using"back roads"is plain silly.Luck has nothing to do with it.
I don't have sat nav but I am told they can show delays up to 50km ahead giving you enough time to plan a route around.
In my experience the GJs tend to prevent lorry traffic but leave a restricted space to allow cars to pass. The also tend to be relatively cheerful depending on the weather so don't scowl at them.Give a smile,a wave, and say bonne chance. It will be appreciated.
It may be frightfully inconvenient to us but at least they are attempting to change their government's policy which is more than we docile brits will do.

Not much notice,I'm afraid, but there is a general strike in France tomorrow which may affect someone's plans.
