Damp

Damp

Postby Wilkieboy » Mon Jan 27, 2020 6:06 pm

The recent rain has caused damp to appear on bedroom ceilings and walls. Is there a paint that can be bought to get rid of it please?

Best to find cause of damp first, then you can get stain block paint to cover the stains, this prevents it from reappearing after you paint it. Should be available from most good paint stores- merchants, you can also seal it with pva glue diluted with water, brush on over affected area.

We had to invest in a dehumidifier, money well spent as it works a treat. Washing the damp with diluted bleach takes it away but if it's anything like our place it'll just come back. Dehumidifier is the answer.

We now use a paint that has an anti mould chemical in it. We got it on the industrial estate in Torevieja, there are 2 warehouses there and it stopped it. Think in our case it was the humidity in the house that caused the mould.

Simple and quick fix to paint it (brush or roller) with Domestos bleach. Instant fix.

That is an instant fix but you also need preventative measures, the anti mould paint afterwards otherwise it will keep coming back

A lot of damp in the winter months is caused by internal condensation - have a hot shower, the window closed etc, damp in the air - one example.

Also, I discovered the use of a gas heater draws water into the environment & found when we used the gas fire, we had damp in the ceiling and it was only from using the gas fire.

Much of this can be avoided with good ventilation, dehumidifiers can help too. Or if using a gas fire, make sure ventilated at the time - which kind of defeats the object, leaving a window open in the winter....
