Sip card renewal

Sip card renewal

Postby shap » Tue Jan 28, 2020 11:57 am

I have just been to renew my SIP card ( 28th Jan) and have just noticed when arriving home that the start date is 01/20 and the end date the same 01/20?
Presumably this is due to Brexit on 31st Jan, but no explanation was offered. Has anyone else come across this or is it just an administrative error? If not, does anyone know about our SIP status after January.? Thanks.

Hi
Is your a red SIP card ?
We renewed ours and no mention of end date, mind you this was last September. Just pop back to them and enquire.

As you were renewing it, I take it that it is a temporary one issued to non-residents in this area?
It should be valid as long as your EHIC is valid and they will still be OK until the end of the transition period in December 2020.
There is no expiry on permanent SIP cards.
After that is anybody's guess at the moment.

I thought these sip cards issued to non residents on production of their EHIC was only valid for 3 month.

Might have put it badly. I didn't mean it is valid for the same length of time that your EHIC is but that whilst the EHIC is still valid then temporary SIP cards can still be renewed within that time.
And they are valid for 3 or 6 months depending on circumstances.

Thanks. Normally my Sip card as a non resident requires renewal every 6 months. I guess there has been an admin error so I will go back tomorrow and report back as to what happens. I would assume things would carry on as normal until the end of the transition period, Dec 31st.

Sorted! It was an administrative error and I now have another 6 months on my SIP card. Thanks to all who offered advice/explanation.

Hi Guys,
My SIp card does not have a renewal date on it. Is it the same for others.
Replies appreciated.

If you're a permanent resident then the SIP card does not run out. As long as your padron is kept up to date then the SIP remains in force. Those with expiry dates are ones issued to temporary residents.

SIP = Sistema de Informacion Poblacional = Population Information System.
