Transferring car into your name.

unlike the UK, when you acquire a used car, it is not just a simple matter of signing the UK V5 form with new owners name etc.. in Spain to transfer the car into your name there is a 6% transfer fee, mine cost 1100€. Irrespective of the price you insert on the transfer forms (or someone donates you a car ) the authority have a book value on EVERY CAR AND MODEL YEAR, and that is the figure used. If you buy from a dealer this transfer cost is usually included in the price you pay for the car.
This could be a factor in why some people believe cars are more expensive in Spain.
