Any idea what the cost of medical insurance could be

Any idea what the cost of medical insurance could be

Postby MandyandDeanCaddy » Sun Feb 09, 2020 4:50 pm

We are thinking about moving into our holiday home permanently in the next two-three years but neither of us will be of pensionable age by then. As we will be 63 and have pre existing health problems i.e. diabetes, and have regular prescriptions, will this prove to be an expensive problem for us. We appreciate we have to pay into a scheme, but have no idea how much this will cost us, or who to go to. Many thanks.

All cases are different. Your best bet it to enquire to an actual insurance Co. Or brokers. Try Sunbay insurance company Torevieja. You can email them.

There are numerous insurers , the board at Quiron hospital shows at least 15. mostoffer various levels of cover but if you are obtaining cover for residencia, you will probably need a higher level of cover. Many insurance brokers will provide quotes and Assa also have a office in Quesada.

The pre existing issues will impact , my guess is that for 2 people around 63 with no preexisting you would be looking around 3000- 4000 euros per annum. As per previous reply I would go to a few brokers and get quotes

It all depends on your age as well
I WAS with Asssa , I’m beginning 50 and I,payed nearly 700€ yearly…

I will go to Mapfre now as they cover most off the things for less money

Hi Mandy and Dean,
My wife and I are with ASSSA, aged 59 and 62 respectively, with no pre-existing conditions, our Standard Plus cover costs Eu 1,780 per year. Prescriptions are not included. You need private health insurance to obtain residency, Basic cover is not sufficient. After the first year of being resident, you can apply to join the Convenio Especial, which costs Eu 60 per person, per month, and increases to Eu 157 per person, per month at age 65. Whilst prescription costs, also, are not covered by the C.E., the upside is that the scheme doesn't exclude pre-existing conditions.
Hopefully, by the time you start drawing you UK State pension, the S1 scheme will still exist and you'll be able to transfer your NHS free healthcare to Spain.
Best wishes,
Paul
