ITV Advice

Postby Reider » Mon Feb 17, 2020 9:04 pm

Hi all.

We need to ITV out car soon, first time since importing two years ago.

4 Months ago following a blowout i replaced both back tyres, Then 2 weeks ago i noticed A split on 1 of the front tyres, I replaced both front tyres.

I now have, 2 newish matching tyres on the rear axles, and 2 new (different manufacturer) tyres on the front axle.

Has anyone else had similar and had an ITV test.

Thanks for any replies.

Tyres on each axle must be the same type and specification. The ITV station at Torrevieja insists on the same make on each axle due to the differences in braking distance specs.
This is the advice given on a motor vehicle site in Andalucia:
Tyres
More attention is to be paid to tyres, and this change has already been introduced to the ITV process. Tyres must now have a minimum tread of 1.6mm. Inspectors will also check the general condition of the tyres, ensuring no damage or deformations are present. And tyres on an axle must be identical – same make, same pattern and same type.

Tyres must be compatible with your vehicle, be road worthy and be properly inflated.

According to ITV Andalucía, last year 22% of all vehicle fails were due to issues with tyres.

And from Tumbit on tyres:
Tyre Variations

All tyres fitted on a vehicle are require to be the of the same make/size/speed code etc... on every wheel - Don't forget the spare !

No, I haven't taken one to the ITV station to be tested but have heard the stories about failing if the tyres are of a different make, especially on each axle. Always advised to have the same make all round.

I had mine done at the ITV station at San Bartolome and it passed, one of the front tyres was not the same make as the other on the same axle but the specification was identical, The advice in the ITV manual is that the tyres on an axle must be the same specification nothing about same make
Also the wait time was only 45 minutes

Poorly worded advice from tumbit. If you read that you’d be thinking that you’d need the same size rears as your front tyres.

Here's a link to the ITV test procedure manual (in Spanish):
https://itvsanjavier.com/wp-content/upl ... .-2018.pdf

On page 167 it says:
"En el mismo eje, todos los neumáticos serán del mismo tipo" which translates to "On the same axle, all the tyres will be of the same type"

So, you should be fine. If they fail it because the two axles have different tyres (that otherwise comply with the specification for the vehicle) then challenge their decision and ask to see the relevant section of the manual.

Pete.
