A red rover ticket. Me and my cousins used to get one of these, hop on a bus and go for miles all across London. One night it got late and we ended up in the depot, end of the line. The driver and clippie fed and watered us and took us home. We used to be out for the whole day going up and down the Mall, Downing st (When you could) Traffalgar Sq, anywhere it was such an adventure. We were only 10 and 12 no mobile phones for mum and dads to check up on you. Never got told off. Great times.

I like tiger nuts too. You can buy them in Spain, here they are called chufa. The milk they secrete is sold in juice bars, horcheta (de chufa).

My 6d a week pocket-money went on a jamboree bag, and a Beano. If I could blag another 3d that would be a Dandy too. Black jacks and fruit salads, 4 for 1d. Mojos, 8 for 1d. Happy days.

Yep, did that many times. The museums at South Kensington were always on the agenda.

Exactly the same as me, got my pocket money off nan and I was straight round to Mr Wilson buying my sweets and comics, my favourite was the Dandy and Beano, my uncle who wasn't much older than me (the whole family lived in the same street) used to buy horrible comics, Roy of the Rovers, Eagle ? things like that.

School dinners - OMG I hated them, the hall used to stink of wood polish (it was all wooden blocked floors) . The dinners were nice but you didn't have a choice, you got a dessert whether you wanted it or not, and it always had a bleeding custard plopped on top. It always made me sick especially the pink custard or chocolate custard, don't even mention tapioca with a dollop of jam in the middle, bloody hell. Everyday I'd be sent home in different clothes because I'd been sick down my own, Eventually my mum sent me to the cafe everyday for my dinner,, went there for years and had stew followed by ice cream and proper custard everyday!. This was junior school so from around 6 - 11 years of age.
