compressing files
compressing files
by pamkee2002 » Fri Apr 24, 2020 2:41 pm
Now, I am not a computer whizz, and too old to be called a kid, but my Gestoria has asked for our Tax Returns to be sent by Computer. I try to E mail using Gmail but it will not go because there are too many files and they are in a Folder. 20 years ago, when I was working I used Winzip, so easy, but now cannot get it. I can perhaps get a trial for 30 days but they want my payment details, which I am reluctant to send as lack of trust. Surely there is a way of sending these without 60 euro at risk. Any one around that can help me out_

camunzip is a free tool which works just like winzip
if you are struggling with file size limits then try wetransfer - I use it to send large files

Yes, but just wonder if for ease of use & to avoid having to install another programme it would be much better & somewhat easier to use the built in file/folder compression tool.

If you right click your mouse and click on NEW, it should give you an option to start a Zip file, then drag the files and put them in the Zip file.
I,m not techno either but I think that should work.
Another way to send big files is Dropbox. Just download it, pretty easy. hth

Its easy in Windows10, in File explorer right click on the file you want to zip, select send to, and then compressed(zip) folder and you can make a new folder or add to existing and it does it for you.
To unzip right click on the compressed folder and then extract to unzip all files or copy the individual zipped file to somewhere else and it unzips.

What sort of documents are you trying to send.
Sounds like it might photos or scanned images in which case reduce the resolution and therefore the file size.
Zipping won't help much as images are already in a compressed format and at best you'll ony reduce them by 5-10%

The OP states Tax Returns for Gestoria, so probably not photos or images

If it's the fiscal paperwork they need to do the tax return. Take photos of each, then send an email with photos as attachments
