Residencia

Residencia

Postby Abigail » Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:55 pm

As we have been here in Spain since March, we thought it would be best to go for Resedencia.
Our first appointment has been completed and now waiting for our letter to go for second appointment.
After reading some comments on the forum, we are somewhat worried as to what lies ahead if we
carry on to become a resident.
We still have a property in the UK which we use when we go back, but are now wondering whether it would be advisable to sell it, or just to keep it as our holiday home. We also have another property which we rent out.

We would be very grateful for any useful information on what would be the implications regarding the taxes, savings, etc., or would we be financially better off just staying in the UK and coming to Spain for the length of time permitted,
Finally, we do love our time in Spain but we do not know whether to stop proceeding with our residencia.
It’s so so confusing

We went exactly the same process, so if you want to PM I can give you some information that might help.

When you own one or multiple homes outside of Spain you need to realize that once you become Spanish resident you will be hit with capital gains tax in Spain when you sell one or more of your abroad homes. It depends entirely on how long you have owned them and what the difference between purchase and sales price is whether this is a problem or not. I would consult a tax specialist on this matter if I were you.
