Advice-Driving through France to Costa Blanca
Advice-Driving through France to Costa Blanca
by jimmi » Fri Dec 04, 2020 12:28 am
Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice on the best route to take driving from Calais to San Fulgencio at the beginning of February 2021. We plan to stick to toll roads in France and will hopefully complete the journey over two days, one overnight stay.
Any advice on the best route taking into consideration weather conditions and also hotel recommendations along the route would be very much appreciated
Many thanks
Jim.

Use the on line Google map to start. This will give you alternate routes and more importantly distance in miles or km. If you only need a one night stop it will show the half way position. It's about 16 hours drive in total.
If your hotel stop is near Pamplona I can give you a smart inexpensive business hotel with restaurant

I would recommend using this routeplanner. https://www.viamichelin.co.uk/ If you register your make/model/year of vehicle than in addition to telling you all toll costs for a specific journey, it will tell you estimated cost of fuel etc.

Hi we’ve done this several times over the years, and sometimes caught some horrendous weather, especially up near the Pyrenees, which ever route you take.
I think my advice would be use ViaMichelin, which is great, but seriously think about heading straight towards the med, via Bordeaux and Toulouse, then into Spain down past Barcelona, just because of the time of year.
Have a safe journey.

Hi all thanks for the reply. In respect of a satnav I normally use Waze which is based on Google maps, but will definitely have a look at Michelin. I realise that I'm most likely to hit snow, just trying to minimise how much.
Thanks
Jim.

We drove at the beginning of February 19 via Bordeaux, San Sebastian , Pamplona and Zaragoza never seen more than a dusting of snow , but it's luck rather than skill at that time of year. It can be a challenging drive with only stopover if you only have one driver.

Totally agree with “nenny”
avoid paris and as much as possible the pyrenees…
it all depends on the time of the year and right now there is already some snow
succes
