Moving to Spain after 1 Jan 2021
by Paul Uden » Tue Feb 16, 2021 12:51 pm
The British Embassy in Madrid has just conveniently posted a lot of useful links all in one place covering this subject for anyone that wants to know:
https://www.facebook.com/42226977121076 ... 274959250/
Some of you have asked us about moving to Spain from 2021. If you are planning on moving to Spain in the future, you should be aware that the entry requirements for UK Nationals entering Spain changed on 1 January 2021.
The British Embassy cannot advise on issues relating to Spanish immigration laws and requirements as these are a matter for the Spanish authorities, but the following websites should be helpful in pointing you in the right direction.
If you intend to move to Spain you should contact your local Spanish Consulate General before travelling for information on new requirements for UK nationals. Contact details for the Spanish Consulate in London are here: http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados ... tacto.aspx
Further information on residence requirements for third country nationals is available on the Spanish immigration portal here: https://extranjeros.inclusion.gob.es/es ... index.html
Information on visas is available in English and Spanish via the Spanish Consulate in London website: http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados ... Visas.aspx
If you are a tourist, you do not need a visa for short trips to countries in the EU. You can stay for up to 90 days in a rolling 180-day period. You can find out more information here: https://www.gov.uk/visit-europe-1-january-2021
To help you check how long you have spent in the Schengen area, you may find this tool useful: https://ec.europa.eu/assets/home/visa-c ... tm?lang=en

Thank you for taking the time to share this useful information. Much appreciated. We have a holiday home in Quesada and whilst we have no immediate plans to move permanently it is good to keep up with the rules as they are changing a lot since Jan 1st, especially for us the 90 day rule which I am still trying to work out how it will affect our bi monthly visits. Don’t think this year will be a problem as it will be a while before we get the all clear to travel but next year I will need to plan ahead carefully. Thanks again. Stay well.
