Our solicitor opened up an account for us with Bankinter before we bought our house a couple of years ago.
We transferred the purchase price into that account 2 or more weeks before we went over to finalize the deal. Euro to euros. No FX involved.
On the morning of the purchase we went to he local Bankinter branch to withdraw "our" money, from our new account. Bankinter wanted to charge us .5% of the value of the bank draft we were withdrawing. That's €500 on a €100,000 withdrawal. I was furious. They then told us that they would only charge something like €50 if we bought our house insurance with them. (between €100 and €150)
We bought their insurance - no brainer not too. Over the next few months they charged us an arm and a leg for every single transaction, plus a large maintenance fee.
After talking with some of our new neighbors in Spain, we opened an account with Deutsch bank, and have been much happier with their service.
Probably a kick back of some sort going on between the solicitor and Bankinter for opening new accounts for their clients.
As well as closing the Bankinter account, and decrying them at every opportunity, we also made sure to go to another insurance company the following year.

We have been with Caixa bank for nearly 5 years. We have had nothing but excellent customer service and we have never had a problem with getting a face to face appointment. We rarely need one but having recently sold our property and purchased another we have needed a few. Noelia Alfonso Mas is an extremely helpful and lovely person, she always gives us an appointment when necessary. We have never had any problems with the bank or the staff. 5* from us.
