Market Tips & Tricks?

Market Tips & Tricks?

Postby DO2ES » Wed Oct 26, 2022 1:47 pm

Which is the best market to load up on fruit and vegetables for the week?

Are there are tips and tricks to it?

Are there different prices from market to market, or are they mostly the same?

Is it more expensive in tourist areas?

Do they have prices such as per kilo on fruit and veg, or is it a guess?

We are near Almoradi, so we know there is one on a Saturday, but have not been to any market in Spain yet.

I searched on the forum but did not see a guide.

Agree, Almoradi the best because most of the clientele are locals so will not put up with prices charged to tourists in markets such as San Pedro or zoco.
We travel 20km each way every Saturday to shop there, well worth it.
Lots of stalls, some without prices, we steer clear of them.

Yes as wingnut says keep well away from the tourist area markets.
Guardamar (Wednesday) is another market good for fruit and veg.
Almoradi has probably the best selection of goods, not just food, clothes, leather goods it is the only market to have a huge selection of fabric and haberdashery.

Buy the best you can as you will find fruit & vegetables go off quickly. Market fruit & vegetables are being sold at the market as they are often past their best for supermarket selling.

Absolute rubbish, market fruit & veg are freshly picked most days & aren't "treated" to look better & last longer on supermarket shelves.

I think some of them are from private growers, and as fresh as you can get, usualy harvested the previous day
Which are not up to supermarket shape or size,
I never found market fruit n veg to deteriate fast , but that's my experience,
And found supermarket veg & fruit will have travelled more miles from field to packer to distribution warehouse to supermarket to your house, just my view.

Almoradi is the best. Go most Saturdays and veg and fruit is good quality. Choose stall where prices are displayed. Also often something happening in the Plaza which adds to the enjoyment of the visit.

All the markets above are great BUT make sure you are not targeted by pickpockets or bag snatchers. Just be aware that they are around everywhere.
