Air Traffic Strike

Air Traffic Strike

Postby pedrosloggett » Fri Apr 14, 2023 5:42 pm

I read in the Leader that SPANISH Air Traffic controllers are due to strike this month. Surprised that there is no mention in any other papers. Has it been called off or still going ahead? Any up to date info much appreciated.

They are striking for 2 hours on Thursdays and Sundays throughout April between 1500 and 1700. Hasn't made any difference at Alicante/Elche so far even though they are included in the strikes and they began last Sunday. At least, no delays reported in the press or on the information boards.

However, people are advised to check with the airline or look online to see if any delays or disruptions are noted.

French air traffic controllers went on a one day strike yesterday, April 13th and more strikes are planned.

Flew out yesterday at 10.45am (Thursday), one of the supposed strike mornings, No noticeable delays at all and our car park bus driver wasn’t aware of any delays.

Out of curiosity I wonder what would be the extra cost to the airline of flying from Spain to the UK using a more circuitous route avoiding French air space.I suppose political outrage would carry more outrage.

My daughter was due to fly from Belfast to London on Thursday night. Huge delay so flew back yesterday morning and that flight was also delayed. Now I know the reason. Strikes. So annoying.
