Trying to send duvet

Postby jacqui9463 » Tue Apr 25, 2023 8:20 am

I'm trying to find a way of sending a duvet weighing 2.4kg and packed very flat from preston in Lancashire to dona pepa 2. Does anyone have any ideas?

You can buy lightweight ones In Yorkshire linen. I got one. Might be easier.

Don't bother. It's not worth the hassle, or the cost. It will probably not reach here anyway!

I wouldn't bother! I have recently sent a photo printed onto board a metre high and half that wide from the UK to Spain via DHL. The value was £50 and it was clearly listed as a family photo on board. The courier cost was just over £40. Duty coming into Spain was charged as 60€ and the Spanish customs had even included the courier cost as part of the value of the item. Don't know where they got that figure from at all. The only consolation is that the photo got here safely with no damage.

Send by Royal Mail Priority and tracked. Make sure the Customs declaration says "Sample" and declared value £1. It will take time, but if you normally get mail delivered, then it will arrive eventually. Be prepared to wait between 10 days and 9 weeks. You may, or may not, have to pay charges. It all depends who is on shift that day and whether they have had a shi##y day so far. Do NOT beleive any of the reported ways of how to work out how much import tax, VAT and handling charges as there is absolutely no way of knowing. This is Spain, post Brexit and they make up the rules as they go along. Take it from me, I have parcels of documents sent to here from the UK every month. There has NEVER been any logical way to work out the amounts I have been charged or not charged. It has ranged from zero to 24€ for the same things each time.
