Gas boiler

Gas boiler

Postby dantan » Sat Apr 29, 2023 6:36 pm

Hi
We are purchasing a small villa that has a gas boiler for hot water , cooking and also central heating.
There is mains gas in the area and a meter at the property but the current owners use bottled gas.
Is it far more cost effective to use bottles or mains ?
We'll be using our place for approx 20 weeks of the year.
I'm also assuming (but will check via my lawyer) that gas boilers in Spain are set up to use both inputs ?
TIA

I'd say bottles as you'd still have to pay a monthly or quarterly standing charge for mains even though you're not here. Our bottled gas seems to last ages and we have 3 showers a day and I have baths in the evening and we cook with gas. So maybe every 6 weeks 22 euros for bottled gas

Thanks

Does anyone know if it's simple (once connected to mains) to switch over in the future if need be ?
Will use bottles for now anyway , seems a good way of knowing where you are

The nozzles within the boiler need to be adjusted or changed due to the different properties of the gas. If it is a small boiler, there won’t be many and they don’t cost a lot.

I believe they have to alter the boiler, something inside as it can't just switch from bottle to mains, so you'd have to get a registered gas engineer in to do that

If you are just buying just be aware that you have to have a Gas check every 5 years by law on all gas appliances, weuse Cespa at Dolores very good and give you all t'he necessary paper work and will write before next service due . they do our gas boiler and fires and BBQ and that's about 65€ and that includes replaced hoses.and agreed with other pòsters bottled gas i paid just over 18 € last week,no nasty surprises make sure you get a spare bottle not good having a cold shower if t'he gas goes a certain times of the year.

Thanks for that.
I'll ask my lawyer to confirm that has been done and request the paperwork. I was going to ask about that too so thanks for the insight
