Voting in Local Spanish Elections.

Also remember that you would be voting in the regional elections as well.
Whilst who you vote for is between you and the ballot box, I'm inclined to agree with Martin on the way PSOE have handled a lot of the things although I am not too pleased with the state of the roads which get torn up and never replaced properly. Except for the main Avda which has improved immeasurably.

There have been problems with bin collections as well and the state of many of the bins is a disgrace. Still, we seem to be a bit better now with the regular collections. Also the uncontrolled building in Quesada is getting a bit out of hand as is the non care of the green areas which spoil the entire area. I suppose spending on the most expensive fence in Spain around an area that was supposed to be a public area means there's no money left for that.

All in all, though, I do think this lot are better than the previous ones.

On the regional ones, though, I will not be voting for the incumbent PSOE. Puig is determined to push Spanish down the list and has changed schools, universities and medical centres into using Catalan (or Valenciana). So how does that affect us? The region has lost some 2000 medical staff in the last 18 months, 1500 doctors and 500 nurses. They are being forced to use Catalan with their patients and many just don't speak it. Of the new medical graduates this year, very few are coming to this region for that very fact. Same with many Spanish people moving out of the region as their children are now taught mainly in Catalan and the universities can't attract so many fee paying students as they go to Spanish speaking centres.

Then there's the lack of support for the water transfer to the Segura area. This means local farmers are paying 3 times the amount for desalinated water than they were from the rivers. He's changed his mind a little on that but was all for letting the price of fruit and veg in the area rise by so much because of it.

So my vote will be the current lot for the Rojales council but, probably, PP for the regional seats even though I recall it was them who stopped Universal healthcare for all residents in Spain.

But it's up to you. PSOE is socialist but nowhere near as left as the UK socialists. PP is conservative but
far more right than UK conservatives. Not sure but I think there are a dozen parties all standing. Ranging from very far left to very far right.

And I don't really believe any of them when they say what they are going to do but rather judge them on what they have, or have not, done.

Hi...only foreigners who are naturalised Spanish can vote in the Valencia Cortes election...at least that is my understanding.

No. residents can vote for the Cortes Valencianes elecciones but your vote goes from the Alicante province deputies.

You can only vote in the national general election if you are a Spanish citizen.
Look at the voting slip you have been sent and it says "elecciones a les cortes valencianes 2023 - Alicante".
The provincial votes go to the President of the Region who takes office depending on the votes received from each province (Alicante, Valencia and Castellon. )

I am struck by the amount of auction politics from all the parties. None of the promises are costed. Seems like there is a large pot at the end of the rainbow. I think the PSOE policy on water transfer is savage and very political and Alicante Province is the big loser. Puig has been too late on deciding which side of the riverbank he is on in trying to play both sides and it will affect his vote. I do agree that Torrevieja has fared better under the PP despite the corruption.

So why have they sent regional voting papers to British expat residents?
Why was my vote for the Cortes allowed at the last election? I am a resident, not a citizen yet I was still allowed to vote.
I think this is getting mixed up with the Valencian presidential election which we can't vote in but we can vote for the municipal and Alicante province elections, the latter which counts towards the Valencia Region make up.

I've just got inside from speaking to the lady doing the rounds for PP she was Swedish I think but is the International something, I heard her talking to next door and thought it may be someone doing a Scam (he's here on holiday) but it was all legit so I spoke to her and was adkingy lots of questions re hospital, policy squatters and rubbish. Seemed positive. My Spanish neighbour came out and I involved him he weren't having any of it he's far left

Hi..the problem here (for me) is that I prize my right to vote where applicable. I have searched the internet and simply cannot find anything that answers my question...namely ...Can I as a tax paying British resident of the Valencian community (Alicante) vote in the forthcoming election for the Valencian cortes. I understand Marcliffs reply about casting a vote for the Alicante region...however there are other opinions that differ. My election Censo electoral card Elecciones Mayo 2023...States Municipio : Benojofar...there is no reference to a regional vote... I will take the orange voter envelope and list with me and try to vote in the regional election...The problem of course is that I may or may not be allowed to vote in the regional election in error, as in the person who allows or does not allow my vote ...like myself may simply not know. Caotica/Caotico...shambles.

Maybe because the PP posted lists to all voters, regardless of nationality they all got both white and brown lists, whereas the PSOE only sent the white local list to foreigners.

The last election was four years ago, I believe we hadn't left the EU at that point.
