Does anyone have experience of care homes in Spain or the response of the Social Services?

Social services work differently here. As they are based in clinic hospital and town hall. It’s very difficult to get an appointment unless someone is in hospital. The only help on offer is a bit of cleaning.
The experience I had with a home here for my mum. Sorry but horrendous. I have been a carer myself and really didn’t like the way the residents were treated. Sadly here restraint is used along with strong sedation. Transferring patients around was in my opinion with my training dangerous for both patients and staff.
I thought at the time I was making the right decision for my mum. After 4 months in there she went from being able to walk with help to being in a wheelchair all day. She lost a lot of weight as she wasn’t eating. She didn’t understand what the food was. I was told English would always be spoken to mum which didn’t happen.
There is very little understanding of dementia/ Alzheimer’s here. As the illness progresses the person forgets what things are called the name for food etc. I bought mum home with me … took nearly a year to wean her off sedation. I looked at several .on the surface yes they are ok. It’s the restraining I disagree with… they seem to be very understaffed which doesn’t help. Sorry it’s probably not what you wanted to hear.
