Bank charges

Bank charges

Postby rainbow54 » Mon Jun 05, 2023 2:23 pm

Does anyone know of any bank that give free banking if you have your house insured with them? My friend who is non resident thought she had free banking with Sabadell because she has her house insured with them. She has now learned that she doesn’t. She has been paying €40 per quarter. She hasn’t been to her house in nearly 3 years and doesn’t have online banking, which we have now got sorted for her. I was always under the impression if you had any insurance you got free banking.

We bank with Santander. We bought the insurance through them and paid in 2 instalments. We didn't pay bank fees for 6 months, once the 2nd instalment was taken monthly account charges (10 euro) commenced.

There are free online Spanish bank accounts without conditions, but these tend to be for residents only. A non-resident doesn't need a Spanish account, just a euro account. You can open these online with the likes of Wise and Revolut. Many people on here have them.

We are with Caixa and have free banking, we could have had our pension paid in, opened up a savings account with 20k but house insurance wasn't included for free banking, it was at one time. Non resident may be different.

I'm a resident and bank with Caixa. We were given free banking once we took out home insurance and deposit €1000 a month into our account. We agreed this in March this year.

We were going to transfer I think they said 300 or 700 a month from our other account, do it like that but they said it had to be a pension. That was end of April I think. They change like the weather

Thank you Chris and all who replied. It is much appreciated. We ourselves have had free banking with Caixa since opening the account 5 years ago. We transfer some of our pensions each month. Our friend is non resident so wouldn’t be getting her pension paid in. I think we will have to look into Wise or Revoult for her.

I’m non-resident and have a Cajamar account with no charges. I had to deposit a refundable €1037 for which I receive a small annual interest

I had the same amount with Caja Rural technically while they said it was a savings account it was actually shares with annual return. However they soon moved the goalposts and started charging saying I now had to take out two products to stop charges. Having used Wise for many years I opted to use them for my banking. Only downside is only allowed €200 free cash in every 30 days. I then opened a UK Santander account so get free withdrawals for cash in Spain using Santander ATMs. Also have chase card and nationwide credit card.
