Hi All, we drive our UK car down to Spain in the summer. Do you know if we need to get an emissions sticker, and if so, how we go about it for a non-Spanish car? Thanks

Spain are not issuing stickers to foreign plated cars but as a workaround they will accept the sticker from other EC countries that have introduced similar regulations i.e France, Denmark, Austria and Germany. You can buy the sticker online from the French Crit Air site. Just give yourself plenty of time for the sticker to arrive https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/

The jury is still out on that one. The DGT states that if your vehicle comes from a country with the equivalent stickers then you can use them.

Barcelona does have a system for registering UK (or other foreign) vehicles and you can obtain a long term permit (up to 2 years) if your vehicle is compliant. You can register your vehicle at this site Register

If your vehicle is not compliant you can apply for a 24 hour permit and you can apply for 10 such permits per year.

For Madrid, the following advice was issued

On the day the new obligation entered into force, it was still unclear whether it also applied to foreign vehicles. According to the information made available yesterday on the official website of the city, vehicles registered outside Spain whose registration numbers are not on the DGT (General Directorate for Road Traffic) register do not have to apply for the eco badge or stick it on the windscreen in order to enter the capital city.

So it would seem you can drive your UK reg car in Madrid without registering it.

It would, of course, be nice if they had the same registration system for all of Spain like France and Germany does but I suppose that would put some of the bureaucrats out of a job.
