International deliveries

International deliveries

Postby Benjy » Tue Jul 11, 2023 5:10 pm

What’s the best and cheapest way of getting a brand new unopened laptop delivered to Spain. The company only delivers to the U.K. so a relative would have to send it on to me. Who pays the taxes, me at this end or the sender in U.K. and how do I calculate the taxes? Ta very much.

You'd have to pay and I think it's a guessing game as to how much.

Do I have to declare what’s in the package? Do taxes go off weight, size, contents or value? If anyone can advise please. Ps. Thanks chrisdee.

I think you have to declare what it is and also put a value of what it's worth but don't know anything else. I'm too scared to order or have anything sent from UK as heard a right mixture of stories plus can be held up at customs.

Ouch, that's a lot especially when it's an expensive item

You will have to pay any import tax (21%) plus any extras like customs handling charge etc. I would allow about a at least a quarter of what the item is worth in fees. I know because i've been hammered by them before numerous times.

Best to have somebody hand carry it out for you as if it were their own. Zero chance of getting pulled up for VAT and import charges WHY.

I buy a lot online but haven't ordered anything from UK since Brexit, it's just not worth the uncertainty and potential hassle.

I believe most feel the same way and it must constitute a significant loss to UK sellers, a definite Brexit non-dividend!

It's pretty much a lottery re costs I'm afraid. We had a large family photo which was printed onto board which had cost us £50. Courier cost was £48.00 but then admin and entry costs were €60!! Worth it for us as it had great personal value to us but our Post Box service told us sometimes there is a charge, sometimes not and the Customs people seem to pluck the charge out of thin air.
We were unable to carry it on board the plane coming back to Spain and didn't want to risk damage by having it in the hold.
