Lake La Mata
Lake La Mata
by Mr H » Fri Jul 14, 2023 11:44 am
Simple question.
Is it possible to walk all the way around this lakes perimeter, not part way or sections but the whole way? If so where would be a good start/finish point, and how long for a modest walker?
Cheers

There are a whole series of walks signposted, with distance markers. Starting point and information at the visitor centre.
I wouldn’t recommend doing any of them until September when the heat dies down. There’s not much in the way of shade or refreshment
You’ll find more information on La Mata Natural Park below

EDIT: Looks like a ban on entering nature reserves is imminent because of the high temperatures

Thanks for your reply but it didn’t really answer my simple question, can you walk all the way around Lake Mata from the same start/finish point. If so where would be the best place to start/finish?

Why not call into the visitor centre & ask them.

The information is all on the link and you can get the printed maps from the start position at the visitor centre.

A quick look on google earth will show you that you can only get around about 50% of the way around , lots of marshy area which overgrown and dangerous and inacessable , cycled and hiked round it several years ago takes around3/4 hrs .
Also home to snakes and several lizards including large ones ...!!

The south side is accessible. Park at cemetery which is up the road from the visitor centre. Short walk to the lookout tower. Then continue to follow the pathway until you come out at the Los Montesinos roundabout.
Take and consume your own food and refreshments, then make your way back the same way you came.
I used to cycle all the way round 15 years ago, but it’s no longer possible.
