Way to bypass 90 day rule?

Paul Uden wrote:Interesting question. There are various student visas available including one for a year-long course. There are several hurdles to jump e.g. you need to have a certain level of funds to support yourself, health insurance etc, and you need to have been accepted by an accredited institution before you apply for the visa. I think Paul Uden got this spot on. There is no " way round " anything; there is a student visa route to enable you to remain more than 90 days, but it has its own strict rules eg full time course, proof of funds etc etc. Sufficiently strict that it is only likely to appeal to those with the sufficient resources genuinely wanting or willing to follow a course of full time study... and good luck to any that do.

Paying for a whole year doesn't mean one has to attend everyday.

OK, so you apply for the course, pay the tuition fee for the course, pay for the student visa (80 euros), pay for full health insurance, provide proof of sufficient funds, provide an apostilled criminal record check
.... for an extra 89 day stay!

Do you think it's actually worth it?

I'd give up if I was you. You're banging head against a brick wall.

Thanks to all our respondents. Yes, we do think it's worth it.

Brick walls are to be climbed over!

And if anyone does know of a good course in Alicante province, we'd still be interested to hear of it.

You must be uber desperate for those extra 89 days.

I'm beginning to get the feeling there may be sinister motives at play and claiming that "brick walls are to be climbed over" suggests a mindset given to law breaking.

Even if you got away with it I doubt there'd be a second time

From what you've described and what I've read you may be better off with 6 month study visa. This may be less arduous to obtain and can be used for Spanish language courses, but is not extendable so it would be a one-off. You may also find the course has to be of more than 20 hours per week duration. It might be better to check with a lawyer which courses are accredited for this purpose in the Alicante province. Do let us know how you get on.
