Dog training

Dog training

Postby merida » Sun Jul 16, 2023 8:47 am

Hello and a little help please !
We have recently adopted a 2 year old "mixed breed" dog from a rescue centre, where he had spent the last year.
He is slowly settling down and enjoying life and he is great fun and company for us.
However, when we let him in our house in the morning he goes mad !. He is hysterically happy but uncontollable !.
To a degree, that is quite natural of course, but we really could do with some professional help to calm him down a little.
Does anybody know of a suitable dog trainer who might be able to help us ? We have had lots of dogs in our lives but getting mauled
and scratched to bits is not good for our aging bodies ! (We are aware that time alone will gradually work,)
TIA
Cheers

Is it getting lots of exercise? As it's a puppy still it needs to get lots of exercise and tire it out, maybe first thing it the morning take him for a walk/run? 2nd thing, get his nails clipped so not so sharp. There are dog training places about as it's been mentioned on here before, try looking in the free papers.

Hello again. I thought that I had sent a reply about all the information you had been kind enough to forward on to me etc, but I now cannot see where that message has gone (unless Cleo has torn it up) so I shall repeat it now.
Thank you all for that information, and I have already made contact with one or two of names given to me.
For your information, "Cleo" who is 22 kgs spent half of his life in a cramped rescue centre kennels, so no wonder he is more than happy to greet us in the mornings ! Good idea about the armour suit, but do not think I need to go that far !!
I understand about puppy exercise etc, we have raised several, however in this heat we can only give him two short walks a day. Come cooler weather, he will be visiting doggie park a lot. He has had a routine clean up at our local vet and his claws have been trimmed. Thanks again to all of you for your response and suggestions.
Cheers, Adrian
