Taking a dog to the UK

Taking a dog to the UK

Postby Mart 63 » Mon Jul 17, 2023 11:27 am

We will be taking our dog with us on holiday to the UK, via Santander/ Portsmouth. What documentation will he need, other than Spanish passport, rabies and tapeworm. The same on return to Spain.
Thanks

Same paperwork on the way back as it has an EU passport no special requirements on re-entry to EU.

Yes, quick check over at the vets, given a worming tablet, all to done and taken within five days of the time of travel, cost just around 20euros, be aware though, some vets charge 60 or more for exactly the same thing. Pet passport is documented and dated to prove that that’s been done. For return, nothing, nothing at all, turn up at the port, show the passport, welcome home. Safe journey.

Went back to see family in April. Took our 2 dogs to Benican Vets on Wednesday for worming tablet. Vet dated and stamped their passports. Drove through France to St. Malo for ferry on Saturday. Ferry ticket collector only looked at their passports and gave us a chip scanner to check their chips. Then on to ferry. On return no tablets only passports and chips checked. They both have EU passports. One had a UK one and the vet changed it for a EU one straight away for a small charge sometime ago. Check at least a month before that all the injections etc are up to date. They most be a month before you board or they may be refused at the ferry. Enjoy your trip.

Just make sure that the pet passport is signed and dated correctly by the vet, we have twice been stopped at Santander before boarding and sent to the local vet as passport has been incorrectly dated or signed and had to pay out for correction , 2nd time we had to get a new passport through no fault of our own.
