Renewing driving licence when turning 70

I'm not 100% sure either, but from what I've seen it 'defaults' to 70 if you are between 60 and 65 when you get your first Spanish licence or renew it.
People who are younger than 60 can get up to 10 years if they pass the medical etc (e.g. me), people over 65 can get up to 5 years, also depending on their medical results, which can take them over 70 (as in your case and also my wife's). Another friend was in his early 60s when he moved over, as was Jabberwocky's wife, and his expires aged 70.
So, seemingly all the people between 60 and 65 aren't given the full 10 years because it takes them beyond their 70th birthday and the expiry then 'defaults' to that date. That's logically at least half of us, so a lot of people in practice, but not you or me or our wives.
No doubt someone will now pop up and contradict all that from their own experience, in which case I have no clue!!

We exchanged our licenses in 2018 mine expires on the date of my 70th birthday.
Hubby had just turned 65 so his licence was issued for exactly 5 years , which is 5 months after his 70th birthday, which agrees with Paul post.
So we need to sort out his renewal in the next couple of weeks. Do we need to take a photo with us or do they do it when you go for the medical?

At Clinica La Siesta everything is done there, including the photo. Just take your old licence and your TIE. You will be issued with a 3 month temporary licence allowing you to continue driving in Spain (not elsewhere) whilst you wait for the new licence to arrive by post to your home address. We kept our old licences so if you did need to drive, say, in the UK in the meantime you could do so as long as it was still within the expiry date.

There is a difference...if you have been subject to heart surgery..including stents then a certificate of fitness is required from a Cardiologist...not your local Doctor.

Not just that, there is a health questionnaire on which you must declare any health issues and the examining doctor will decide if they want letters from your doctor or specialists etc.
For instance insulin controlled Diabetes could be one but if in doubt you should disclose.
