Poor Car Radio reception

Poor Car Radio reception

Postby nigelandkath » Wed Aug 02, 2023 9:50 pm

Does anyone else experience extremely poor radio reception in and around Torrevieja especially regarding English radio stations. Kath is convinced it is our car radio, but it is a brand new car with we were told a top of the range radio system. If it is our car I will take it to Renault and get an amplifier fitted, but if it is the stations themselves or our area of reception then I dont know what to do. Thank You.

FM radio is sooo last century!

Most stations are available online and most cars will be equipped with the ability to pair with your phone, via either Android Auto or Apple Car Play, and play from there.

Don't waste money on an amplifier, as likely to cause problems as solve them.

I have a 9 year old Renault and don't have too much problem with FM.

You didn't answer the question.
Why just because it is the latest technology do people assume that it is automatically better and that older tec' should be immediately obsolete? Many people do not have or need internet roaming on their phones so do not assume that you are the standard.
Remember, when we assume, we make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'.

On our 4 year old Hyundai we have a job to get BigFM from the Moncayo Saturday market roundabout along the dual carriageway and in Guardamar. Even though it has Bluetooth I keep roaming off on my phone as it is only Payasgo and I have no desire to have to lash out money all the time to top up and only costs me €20 a year.

We have found this too. I used to like Bay Radio and Spectrum, but gradually they became difficult to listen to as the reception just got worse. I find Big FM usually works fine locally - fading a bit around Guardamar as you said.

You will probably find its not the fault of the radio in cars or homes but, its the radio stations transmitting frequency that fall foul with "other" stations very close to the same frequency being clogged up, you may need to re-tune slightly.

Thanks for your experiences. Just pleased to know its not just our radio system that has these issues.

It used to upset me the poor coverage. My car has a DAB signal or whatever but until about 9 months ago I could never get anything on it but all of a sudden I get many stations and I can travel evreywhere now without losing the station. Did Spain suddenly switch this feature on or did I unknowingly enable it??

This radio is also showing dab but still getting bleed over. But it is fm that is a real bind. Bleed over sudden crackling loss of reception altogether and more. Just driving through torrevieja is a nightmare.
