As I understand it, this relates to mortgages issued around 15 to 20 years ago when some lenders had an illegal floor on their rates such that when the EU base rate fell very low their mortgage rate didn't. We were with BBVA at the time and although we claimed a few years back it turned out that they had sufficient clauses in their contract with us to cover themselves. A friend of ours is currently going through the same process and still awaiting an outcome. His mortgage was also from 15+ years ago, but I'm not sure which bank or which company he is using. They all take a % cut on a 'no win no fee' basis. I imagine all more recent mortgages will be compliant.

Thanks Paul for your reply. Yes our mortgage was about 16 years ago. We had to pay quite a few 1000s just to get a mortgage at the time. I don't know if this would of been the floor expenses. I might just give it ago, they might take a cut but it will be money I wouldn't of got back myself. Unless your friend could recommend the person they are using thanks

I don't think there's any harm in it as long as you sign up with a legitimate lawyer.

This information on Wikipedia explains the history quite clearly:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Floor_Clauses

We used Gomez Zurdo Asociados based in Barcelona probably after seeing a similar advert back in 2017, but I'm not sure they're still involved with these claims.

If I can find out who my friend is using I'll let you know. He's been told it could take a year and it's currently in court, but I will try and get an update.
