Buying a new car on HP

Crikey that’s knocking on the door of forty grand!!! That kind of money opens up plenty of choices of pretty decent cars.

Just seen BW Cars advertising a low mileage (32,000kms) high spec automatic petrol Mercedes GLA for €27k. Think these are similar in size to a Qashkai, at only 20k miles it’s virtually brand new and you would own the car!

You have to add on the running costs for the next 6 years to the 27k cost of the car I bet it comes to more than 13 grand

What does "leasing entail" does it include repairs, taxes, services and maybe insurance. €2160 per annum to maintain a new car is a lot of expense.

Depends Fred, there are many different ways of leasing a car, the ‘all inclusive’ model you mention sounds more of a Personal Contract Plan.

Very often these lease deals are just finance leases, servicing, maintenance, insurance etc; is all on your own dime. And of course, when you actually purchase a car, you still have some residual value left for yourself.

There are of course some advantages to leasing but usually these would be more advantageous to business users.

I always viewed leasing as been more of a positive for businesses than individuals. Businesses don't have to worry about maintaining the car or selling on.

Buy a car in ireland , lot cheaper and no added vat on import.

Worked for a friend , he bought a recent Merc , half the price of what they are here and bought it over saved nearly 50% of what the same car is here and lower mileage .

So, the query is about hp on new cars, not a question about used cars.

Businesses always get/claim the IVA back one way or another, that makes it far more commercially viable for them, as apposed to Joe public who can't claim it back.
