Possible scam

Possible scam

Postby Tonbar » Mon Sep 04, 2023 2:13 pm

I have had an email supposedly from my bank telling me my last card payment today has been denied and to ring the number given. The amount is small and has been taken from my account and not put back. Therefore the payment must be ok.Obviously I won't be phoning the number as I believe it to be a scam. Also the email is addressed to Dear customer not to me personally. So just a warning to be careful. If it is a scam how did they know that I had been in that particular restaurant. Is my card being watched. Have to check with my bank tomorrow. Quite concerning.

Honey Kebab In the Square La Mata. Do you think it could be the staff?

Do you know it originated with the visit to that particular restaurant or are you adding 2 and 2 and getting 5?

'Last payment today' doesn't necessarily mean it's anything at all to do with the restaurant you mention, just that an attempt had been made to use it today by someone somewhere.

It's a bit premature and unfair then to be blaming the last place you used the card as its details could have been compromised in many other ways and quite possibly some time ago.

The email I received stated the purchase came from this restaurant.
I was asked which restaurant I had been to. I didn't mention in my message what I had bought or where I had been. So please don't jump to conclusions that I am blaming the restaurant. I repeat I was asked. Also it could just be a simple error with the card machine. Payment has gone through so it should be ok. However you cannot be too careful nowadays.

The correct amount was taken only what the bill came to. I have already said I will go to my bank but they close at 2.00. The phone number is the same as on the website. Thinking about it probably an error with the card machine and wi fi connection. It just seems strange to receive such an email.

At the restaurant,
Was the card ever taken out of your sight or transaction done the table,

Small hand held card cloning devices are avialable, you never know, never let out of your sight, keep your pin when used , out of sight of over head cameras in shops etc,
