Surely the garage storing the car must know this!

Thank you. I will email them.
You would think so, but the insurers want to use their own, to keep costs down I guess.
Regards. John

If the insurer is handling it why are you bothered or getting involved?
If you've received a settlement then the car is no longer your responsibility or yours to dispose of.

Hi
Because the insurers scrap merchants are offering a Pathetic scrap value which will be bettered by others!
The insurers are also offering a quarter of the value of the car that it was insured for, which they based their premium price in.
Regards.

Sorry but I still don't see how it's your place to be touting around for the best scrap value. Notwithstanding any disagreement over value the insurer will have calculated their settlement offer with the scrap value taken into account. If somehow the wreck were to fetch more then it's quite probable that the settlement would be adjusted accordingly leaving you no better off!
Insurers we all know can be a disreputable lot but the price you paid for a car, or the value you personally place on it, all become pretty meaningless when it comes to an accident or total loss when the insurer will simply look at the trade price of comparable models when deciding on a repair or a write off and offering a settlement.
If there were something exceptional about a car which genuinely elevated it's pre accident value, condition or very low mileage for age being obvious examples, there can sometimes be a little room for negotiation but beyond that it's trade value, end of story.
I wonder on what basis you arrive at your valuation of quadruple the insurers, that's a massive disparity?
Have you checked online prices for similar cars or had valuations from say http://www.webuyyourcar.es or http://www.autosdirect.es ?
Having never had to make a claim of any sort in Spain, much less for a total loss, I'm not sure it works the same way here but as a general principal insurance is supposed to 'make you whole' by putting you back in the position you were before whatever happened happened and in a case of dispute over the value of a car you may be able to demand that instead of the cash settlement they simply provide you with the same make and model car which they can purchase through the trade at trade prices.
Since that is what they are basing their offer to you on it seems a perfectly reasonable solution for both parties.
