Mugging in Calle Santiago de Compostela Dona Pepa

Mugging in Calle Santiago de Compostela Dona Pepa

Postby SteveMcB » Thu Oct 26, 2023 12:40 pm

I just wanted to give everyone the heads up. My mother in law is visiting our apartment in Spain. This morning around noon at 12.10 she was mugged and had her necklace stolen. She was near the old laundrette on Calle Santiago de Compostela that has recently closed down, not the newer one by the Postbox near Gama, on the opposite side of the road a bit further down the hill. She was walking her dog and was approached by a teenager in a hoodie. He grabbed her round the neck and stole her necklace and they both ended up on the floor. She is obviously quite distressed and is in the process of reporting this to the police but thought it best others who live locally should be made aware.

As sad to say as it is the only sure defence against such street robberies is to avoid public displays of valuable items such as necklaces and watches etc. particularly so if out alone.

Thankfully she wasn’t injured other than some bruising. Her necklace wasn’t valuable (other than sentimental) and thankfully she didn’t have her handbag or phone when the attack happened. Had she have had these items I’ve no doubt the robber would have taken these too.
She’s 71 years of age and very active but feeling vulnerable when she’s leaves the apartment at any time of day as the incident happened around noon.

Goodness, so sorry to hear about this...An inconsequential value necklace... no-one or nothing is safe from these people.
Your mum had taken sound advice to leave anything and everything of value at home-yet still this happened...
I hope your mum is ok

How awful hope she is recovering after such an ordeal. Just another example of a bully attacking a lone woman. In all sorts of situations the vunerability of women is taken advantge of.

I agree Bettyboo and it doesn't matter what age you whether 10, 21 or 100 we always feel vulnerable.
