Looking at reports from the French side on efforts to introduce a special Holiday Home visa for UK holiday homeowners it could be a lengthy process to get through all houses of the Legislature. The French Senate agreed a motion to the Immigration bill but it didn't give any specifics on what documentation might be necessary or mention how long such a Visa would be valid for. Whereas EU countries are free to issue different types of Visas they cannot unilaterally change the 90/180 regulation for Non-EU citizens.

Darro talk is not cheap. I heard of someone who was seen talking with a young lady, the ensuing divorce was certainly not cheap.

It made The Times today. Maybe with David Cameron as new Foreign Affairs Minister it might thaw the atmosphere another bit

This is the gist of it

France could relax its 90-day visa rule for British second homeowners after French politicians claimed they had been “punished by Brexit”.
The senate, the country’s upper chamber, has voted through an amendment to the country’s new immigration law that would grant British homeowners the automatic right to a long-stay visa.
The amendment is due to be debated next month in the National Assembly. President Macron’s government, which does not have a majority in parliament, has already indicated that it will not back it.

Last week Philippe Bas of the Republicans party said: “Generally speaking they [British citizens] didn’t have anything to do with Brexit, but Brexit has punished them. They must be able to come to France and make the most of their second homes and spend their money.”

I think that as he was the PM who set the Brexit referendum in place originally, if anything it'll have the opposite effect unfortunately.

My objection is why should those who were fortunate enough to have be able to afford second homes be further advantaged over others who might also like to stay for longer periods but in rental properties or hotels likely spending just as money.

Highly discriminatory IMO.

Hi Darro
If a person/ couple make a huge commitment and buy and maintain a property in another country, they cannot be classed the same as someone who visits rather than owns. Many people scrimp and save to find the money to buy. You seem to assume that everyone is privileged as in wealthy. Many are and many aren’t. Don’t be harsh on people. We love being in Spain but equally love being at home. Many residents have absolutely no desire to return home. We are all different. When you have to pay a huge amount of money maintaining a home in Spain, it seems wrong for many to be unable to spend time there. All those direct debits add up and that’s money we’ve paid tax on. If we sold up in the morning, we’d have more money and time to travel the world. In truth, we’d prefer to spend time in Torrevieja. The simple life in the heat. Our travelling will come to an end soon sadly as travelling has become a torture
Don’t ruin life for others because you think they May be financially better off than you. Why begrudge joy to others. You don’t know what their lives have been like and this may be the only joy they have. Live and let live. Always try to offer the hand of friendship and you’ll be the better off for it. I notice you regularly offer help and advice when you can. When your life ends, you’d like to think that people will say “ he was one of the good guys”. A true gentleman.

If France moves on the Visa then Spain will have to follow as they won't want to be disadvantaged in the second-home market.

As discussed previously, this is not an amendment to the 90/180, any Country can introduce new visas for longer stays if they wish, it’s completely separate to Schengen tourist visa scheme.
