I think you will find in Spain that it is the car that is insured not the driver. Try checking with the owner of the car in UK.

The car owner 8s our son, and he always insured us on his car beforecwith no problems. Now my husband will be 81 when we go they wont cover him. i have since from out through Age Concern of BIBA which is British Insurance Ass that they will cover. After extensive questions lasting half an hour they came up with £314 for 19 days! we said how about for a shorter period, they said would be the same that was lowest!

It's a bummer but you have to put yourself in the insurers place, you're being asked to insure an octogenarian with a foreign driving licence, no verifiable driving history, and no knowledge whatsoever of the state of their health?

How much would you demand and at what age would you draw the line?

The only other option I can see would be to levy a security deposit of many thousands, even up to the full value of the car.

They did want £1,000 holding which was no problem just thought rather high insurance. Thing is already paid high fare to UK to go and look after a friends dog we stay in their home, but suits us as want to see family and friends. Anyway she managed to do it o her insurers who are Swinton, if that helps anybody. Thank you for responding

Apparently car insurance has sky rocketed in the UK. A friend was saying last night that her friends insurance had gone from 400 quid to 1300. He's had no claims, no change of car everything's the same.

Mine last November...£287.

Just renewed. £263.

Same car, same cover.

Depends on the company, and whether people are prepared to shop around too.
