Bank charges-Sabadell

Bank charges-Sabadell

Postby LadyGrantham » Thu Nov 23, 2023 1:25 pm

Hi All,

I have a sale agreed on my property. My bank is sabadell,
Is there a way I can avoid paying their exorbitant transfer fees of 4%, transfer the proceeds of the sale to my bank in the south of Ireland (Euros EU)
Any body have any experience of transferring moneys a less expensive way to an Irish bank from Sabadell.
Thanks in advance,

Thank you

Are you sure you’ve got that right? 4% would be an absurd fee even for a Spanish bank! Check again and you might find it’s 0.4%.

Thank you for your reply Paul M
I found this online

Typically, sending funds to or from your Banco Sabadell account in euros, UK pounds or US dollar overseas bank account will involve a margin rate of 4.0% - much higher than most currency broker rates (typically 0.7 to 1.0%

Crikey! That’s just outrageous! Could you possibly have the bank draft for the sale proceeds paid into a currency bureau, eg; Moneycorp? It must be significantly cheaper than 4%

4% is extortionate. Can't you just pay the money into your Irish bank as it has an EU IBAN? Does it have to go through Sabadell?

I'm no expert but I believe you will get a bankers draft from the sale. It would be a good idea to go to your branch and ask the question of cost of paying the draft into your account especially as your home country is Ireland and you would then just be transferring from a euro account to a euro account. Once you know the charge for paying in a bankers draft you can then ask a company such as currencies direct what they would charge. At least you will be be able to make an informed decision. Good luck

Open a wise or similar account, have your money transferred into your Euro a/c,then transfer it to Ireland bank at your leisure.
