Buying a vehicle with insurance still in date.?

Hi , I'm looking for advice I recently brought a vehicle which is now in my name, the previous owner told me it still has valid fully comprehensive insurance and gave me a copy of the Green card , can I use this?

Yes it's the car that is insured but the previous owner is putting his claims history at risk by leaving it in place post sale, for sure I wouldn't do it.

Its common practice here, as mentioned above the vehicle s insured not the individual. You can contact the insurance and put your name on the policy or the previous owner may already have done that to avoid losing their no claims.

I'd get my own insurance, the original person could always tell the insurance company to stop the policy and claim remaining months back then you'd be uninsured.

I have now tried to take out a new insurance in my name and the Insurance company that I'm using have said it is problem as the previous insurance is still in place! I thought they would jump at the chance to renew the insurance before the old one expired
