Sewage problem

Sewage problem

Postby Tonbar » Tue Nov 28, 2023 7:58 pm

I live in Quesada. Our house 40 years+ old. We have lived here for 20 years without a problem. In the last few weeks a problem has arisen and we have discovered our house is not connected to the main drainage in the street. Water and waste has been going into a soak away which has now become blocked with rubble. A wall has cracked badly and part of the terrace has dropped. Of course the insurance doesn't cover it because the house was not connected to the mains. Has anyone had this problem how did they resolve it and is there any advice can be given or builder who can do this work at a reasonable price.

Have you been to the council, I’m sure they would look to see if the house should have been connected to the sewer system originally and it might still be possible to connect it now!
How has the soak away become blocked with rubble, again this could be solved by the council. If it’s fly tipping for example…
Your house insurance should repair your property that’s been damaged, it may not pay for connection to the sewer system but waste water blocked is normally in your remit of claims for the property damage and should be included in your insurance. Go to your insurer and see what they say.

Finally if you have a soak away it’s not too expensive to have a modern septic tank fitted you empty it every few years or more, this may be something worth considering. Look on the internet at ‘Aqua energy’
But do lots of research first. Ask the council for recommendations.
For property repair works I can recommend “Blanco” they did my rear patio ground work wall and concrete tiling..

A new septic tank installation will be around the 3k€uro mark plus associated works etc also depends on access and size of area avialable.
