You can already obtain a visa to go to France for longer periods but it is not valid for the Schengen area. It costs 99 euro and has to be applied for with reasons.

This is simply to allow British with second homes in France the chance to get the visa automatically without going through the red tape currently in operation and has nothing to do with Schengen.

Spain doesn't have that type of visa so would have to introduce one to get around the Schengen rules.

Spain could introduce a similar visa if they wanted…. Nothing to do with the Schengen tourist visa, would be a seperate visa for property owners
