House condensation solutions

Our old uwindows are double glazed but the mm is not much, on the new UVPC windows the mm is greater, perhaps that helps plus the UVPC is warmer the aluminim always feels cold. Not like our windows when I was a kid, thick ice on the inside!

I don't think it, I know.Mac3blade wrote:Are you talking about condensation on the glass? Many years ago, our home was single glazed and once the curtains were drawn, the glass became covered with condensation and the water poured down the windows onto the window sills. Now,there’s absolutely no condensation to be seen. So, I’m attributing the lack of condensation to be as a result of the double glazing. Why do you think otherwise???
I have 10mm DG windows in a property under 5 years old yet still get condensation in the bedroom and that's because we do not normally heat it because we like it that way.
Additionally at this time of year cooking with open saucepans can sometimes create condensation on the kitchen window despite the room being at a decent temperature.
Ergo I completely stand by what I said, "of itself DG cannot and does not prevent condensation".
It will certainly do a far better job than single glazing but under the right circumstances you can even get condensation on triple glazed windows!

Ventilation ventilation and more ventilation will reduce interior condensation,
Its colder inside than outside during the day, during the night the temp equates,
My neighbour has masses of condensation but has his aircon on heat,
Another neighbour has gas bottle heater same again masses of condensation,
We have very very little

Thank you all for your replies. We've started using the calor gas heater less, quick warm up of the living room and now use the AC on heat. This along with leaving windows and doors ajar has worked. Cooking is now done with the door closed and the back door ajar. So far so good. The forced ventilation system we previously had was great but I haven't been able to find the same thing in Spain. Thanks for all your advice.

I’m assuming that most people who replied are living in small houses / apartments. If you live in a big house, there’s less likelihood that the rooms will be affected when cooking. Like JPEG, I cook with the extractor fan on and the central heating and condensation isn’t a problem. Boil a kettle and hold it close to a glass tumbler, you’ll see condensation.
