Naming Businesses

Naming Businesses

Postby gracie » Tue Jan 09, 2024 12:12 pm

I have seen a lot posts on here recently naming bars/ restaurants when they haven't liked the meal, I feel it is really bad to name on social media, as it can ruin a business. If you are not happy with a meal take it up at the time with the owners,or don't go back. But don't put off other people going who might have a meal that they are very happy with.

This is exactly what I've been told (and warned about) in the past...but each time I query it, the forum goes quiet.

These forums are there to inform people of their personal experience or their thoughts on other people’s experiences, people are not that fickle, they will always see for themselves. It’s also a place to have some fun.

If people go to an establishment and the product or service is not good or very expensive, there is nothing wrong with people publishing their experience and a forum like this is good at getting the story out.

A while ago, in France I ate in a restaurant the food was deplorable, I told the waitress that the food was inedible, my plate was hardly touched, the owner came out and had a scream at me, so I left, but I had to pay the full amount. So I put a review on their site, literally tens of people said the same. That business went bump soon after. I think that’s a fair result.

People who eat in a restaurant, expect the food to be edible. If not they should not have to pay. But establishments won’t abide by that, so publishing bad experiences is their only alternative. I’m my opinion!

You've got TripAdvisor, Facebook both places that Harry's bar is on, both welcome reviews so why not on here too?

That's EXACTLY the reason I was given for NOT naming businesses which had fallen short of expectations.

The quote was "this is NOT TripAdvisor", and that I should go to TripAdvisor (or similar) if I wanted to name such a business, because "a negative review may affect their trade".

I did do that...and the owner of said business was exceptionally rude, and also proved himself to be a liar, which was rather amusing!

It was a business which appears to be well liked on this forum, which may be why I was warned.

I totally agree...so it would ne nice to know what the actual "forum rule" is on this.

I've reported this post to bring it to the attention of Alex, perhaps he will confirm

When Jan started this website she was very clear that naming and shaming restaurants mustn't be allowed. There are too many bad actors wanting to bad mouth their competitors. Also, we want to ensure local bars and businesses do not close due to a bad review, and Quesada doesn't end up like a ghost town!

If you have a good experience somewhere then please tell us here. If not, please use tripadvisor etc and don't go back - pretty simple.

Yes exactly what I am saying. To repeat do not put negative reports on local businesses. If you have a problem take it up at source, you have other outlets such as TripAdvisor, but to put it on a local forum can be devastating for local businesses
